Carved Elephant Ivory Kneeling Angel in Prayer Button

This is the second of a pair of kneeling angel buttons that I carved several months ago, the first I sold on ebay and this one I've saved until now.  They were both very similar in detail, posture and quality.  Carved from pre-ban African elephant ivory, she is kneeling with her hands folded in prayer and wings curved up behind her.  As you can see in the pictures the carving is very detailed, down to the individual feathers in the wings, her hair, fingers and facial features.  The self shank is carved onto her left side and my signature and the date is inscribed onto the bottom of the button.  The entire button is nicely polished and will make a beautiful addition to your collection.

Jet (Fossil Charcoal) Cowboy Boots

This is a pair of cowboy boots button that I've carved from Jet. The Jet is fossil charcoal mined in the Lake Bakal region of Siberia, it is very similar in quality to the famous Whitby jet from England. The boots are realistically carved and measure just under 1 1/4 inches. I carved a self shank onto the back and inscribed my signature and the date.

Carved Vegetable Ivory Great White Shark Button

Here is a button that I carved out of a piece of vegetable ivory or tagua nut.  This is a great white shark carved in detail, down to some teeny, teeny, tiny teeth.  The eye is a inlaid piece of black cow horn and the deeper carved lines on the shark have been lightly dyed with black show that they will show up better.  The button ha a nice self shank carved onto the back, where there is a line in the material that appears to be a crack but is actually in the material itself.  This button is one that I carved in my first year of button carving and is dated April 20, 2004.  The longest measurement is 1 & 1/2 inches.

Ivory Cicada Button

As I write this it is late August and live versions of this button are flying around making lots of noise outside here. Carved from pre-ban African elephant ivory, this cicada is quite realistic and even has black Bakelite eyes inlaid. Carved with the legs drawn up underneath and also with a self shank, the button measures just under 1 1/4 inches and has my signature and the date inscribed.

Antlered Deer Leaping Carved from Deer Antler

This button is one that I've carved to depict a nice big antlered buck deer leaping, it is carved from the base of a white tail deer antler and still has the gnarled outside surface of the antler as a border.  The button measures just under 2 inches at the longest measurement. I carved a self shank onto the back and inscribed my signature and the date. The deer's hooves, eye, nose and antlers are colored with enamel paint.
